Initiatives
GR3 is committed to serving the needs of the most needy inhabitants of Grenada, the un-served and under-served in the wake of Hurricane Ivan with direct aid in the form of community housing stabilization with a focus on longer term solutions that will enhance living conditions, building standards and revitalize the local economy at the same time.
We propose and intend to accomplish the following goals:
- To implement and support reconstruction projects that will empower local Grenadians to rebuild their lives and communities
- To provide as much direct charitable aid as possible to the most needy and underserved through local Grenadian community based groups
- To support the Grenadian health care system to provide responsive and timely medical aid to those in need as well as those without access to other medical facilities
- To organize, utilize, and encourage community based groups to help the ongoing tracking of individual and community needs
- To promote animal welfare, aid and outreach through existing support channels that exist or are being developed
Reconstruction:
- Primary emphasis will be placed on long term hurricane-resistant decent affordable housing for low-income, homeless and otherwise disadvantaged people. GR3 intends to implement a program to source volunteer skilled labor from Grenada and abroad to train un-skilled or semi-skilled construction teams of local Grenadians in appropriate repair/construction techniques.
- Stabilization of existing structures to include repairs designed to return existing housing to safe habitability if possible and feasible
Relief Aid:
- Enhancing the existing network of such community-based groups and other volunteer groups so as to have complete coverage of the island for continued aid, tracking, assessment and reporting of critical community needs
In October 2005, GR3 and South St. George's Welfare League began distribution of 280 new wheelchairs donated by the Wheelchair Foundation, a US organization. The wheelchairs will be distributed to disabled persons of Grenada
.
Veterinary Outreach:
